Necomachi: Tokyo Nippori

Tokyo is home to a suprising number of galleries devoted to cat-themed art, but Gallery Necomachi ("Cat Town") is one of the oldest and most serious. During a recent visit we took in small exhibitions from four or five different artists, ranging from tasteful woodblock prints and fused-glass artwork to limited-edition posters and figures.
There are also unusual postcards and fridge magnets for gallery-goers in the market for an inexpensive souvenir. The gallery itself is a pleasant place to visit, occupying an old house at the top of a steep set of stairs.
