Ikefukurou Cafe: Tokyo Ikebukuro

Located just a few minutes south of Ikebukuro Station, the delightfully named Ikefukurou has fourteen owls for your viewing, photographing and petting pleasure. The place runs like clockwork as visitors are called in by name, given a short safety talk, and then allowed to spend the rest of the hour with the owls.

Choose from a fruit juice or beer for refreshment, and ask the staff to help you pose for photos with an owl on your hand or head. The friendly owls include an American eagle-owl, mottled owl, tawny owl, vermiculated eagle-owls, several species of scops owl and a tropical screech owl.

It's best to make a reservation the day before via email (see instructions below). The cover charge can be discounted by following the cafe on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to a maximum of 300 yen.
